After writing the screenplay of Mr Ya Miss, Antara Mali has decided to become a full-fledged author. She is now penning a book, titled Psychology of The Haircut, which she says will be “entirely non-fiction”.
Humour, she wrote
While talking about her book, Antara says, “I started writing Psychology of The Haircut a month ago. Hopefully, I should complete it soon. It’s full of humour — I am obsessed with humour.”
Life from the inside
Is it an autobiography? “No, and neither does it have anything to do with hairdressing or hairstyles, as the name suggests. It might have a couple of places where I have to explain where I am coming from, but the theme will be universal.
It’s more about life from the inside and looking at the flip side of things. How I feel about things in life — relationships between a man and a woman, sex, God, spirituality.... We always have rules and facts about everything, but sometimes, we can question them and say it’s not always right to follow them rigidly. It’s not a story about characters.”
A book is difficult
The book will include chapters like The Man Who Chases You Will Chase Other Women, and Aristotle Was Right So Was Your Mother. “Writing for a book is more difficult than a screenplay,” says the actress. “In a book, you have to give your readers imagination; in a screenplay, everything is visually presented.”
Does she have a publisher? “I have someone who is interested, but there’s no confirmation yet.” Apart from her book, Antara is also busy scripting her next film. “I had a choice of writing on erotica, or penning a musical. Now, I have decided to write a street musical, and maybe explore the jazz form in it. I have been a jazz dancer all my life.”
